The last module (Policies) dealt with documenting company policy. Hopefully you will now have completed the Policy Manual or Safety Management Manual (SMM) and are ready to proceed with writing procedures.

Procedures are the way of doing things to achieve the policies. Before you write procedures look at the policies to see what procedures and work instructions you said you are going to maintain and list them.

Next decide on how you are going to structure your procedure manuals. You may decide that your manuals are to be structured using departments and functions as follows:-

The above functions are examples. You should add or subtract functions from the list to suit your company's needs. You know who is responsible for a certain function in the company. He is the best person to write/describe the job he performs. If he is not able to write procedures then he should be asked to explain in detail how he does his job. His answers should recorded and written in the form of a procedure.
