1. Can I call anywhere using my Iridium phone?
Yes, with an Iridium phone you are able to make a call to any landline, mobile phone network including other satellite networks world-wide.

2. How do I call an Iridium phone from a landline/mobile phone?
At this moment in time the Global Switching Network agreements are being finalised by Iridium LLC which means you may not able to call an Iridium phone from a landline or a mobile phone. You can call an Iridium phone from another Iridium phone at only US $0.65 per minute (voice calls only), or you can use AST's switch in the UK.

3. Can I contact an Iridium phone and get them to call me?
YES, you are able to send a SMS (short message service also known as text messaging) directly to an Iridium phone (or pager) by the following two methods:
1. Email the Iridium phone direct using ************@msg.iridium.com
Typically Iridium telephone no starts with 8816 so the respective email address is 8816********@msg.iridium.com with no need to enter the 00 for an international call. The maximum length SMS message you are able to send is 120 characters. NOTE: Majority of email browsers support the facility of a subject matter box when sending an email. Leave blank the subject matter box, as an Iridium phone or pager will not receive this information.
2. Alternatively visit Iridium's messaging page http://messaging.iridium.com where you are able to send a SMS message on line. NOTE: Enter only 8816***** as there is no requirement for the international sequence ++44.
The average time for receipt of a SMS message is 15 minutes. If the person you are trying to contact by sending a SMS message has an Iridium pager bundled with their Iridium phone, should the phone be turned off the pager will record the message (The pager needs to be turned on for this facility)
NOTE: For a pager or an Iridium phone to be able to receive a message they need to be on and receiving a signal. Should they be turned off the message will not be delivered and no non-delivery information is available. The pager is designed to be permanently on.

4. Can I use my Iridium Phone for Email or access to the web?
Data service @ 2.4 KBPS is operational which means via laptop/PC and your Iridium phone you will be able to send and receive emails * (Data kit required*). In addition an enhanced data service is available at 9.6 KBPS which means you will be able to browse the net with your Iridium phone* (Data kit required). |
