All vessels can be registered with Tuvalu Ship Registry. Vessel above 15 years old is required to submit a special survey report on the condition of the vessel for evaluation before registering.

Provisional Registration

  • Fax application form (R1) or submit application online;

  • Fax the following documents to the Registrar:
    1. Forms R2
    2. Bill of Sale (Notarised or Original) or Builder's Certificate (for new vessels)
    3. Power of Attorney (if seller is not the owner of the vessel)
    4. Copy of existing Registry Certifcates
    5. Copy of existing Trading Certifcates
    6. Copy of COC for Officers on board
    7. Remittance details for fees payable;

  • Registrar confirms application and the fees payable;

  • Upon payment of fees, registrar issues the provisional certificate of registry, carving and marking (C & M) note, temporary safe manning certificate and temporary radio station licence (as required).

    The provisional registration is valid for 6 months and may be extended upon application.
    Note: The Registrar reserves the right to accept or reject an application as and when he deems fit that the ship could fly the Tuvaluan flag. Some of the considerations, that the registrar depends on in accepting or rejecting a ship are:

  • The background of the ship and its owner to ensure that they are not blacklisted (such as record of drug smuggling, piracy, contraband, terrorist and other illegal activities, prohibited by law)

  • Port State Control records of the vessel and its history.

    Permanent Registration

  • Send the following documents to the Registrar:

  • Original copy of the declaration of ownership;

  • Original builder's certificate or bill of sale (which will be returned to the owner) or a notarised copy;

  • Original deletion certificate from the previous registry (if applicable);

  • A copy of the full term tonnage certificate and the certified C & M note;

    Registrar issues the permanent certificate of registry, safe manning certificate and radio station licence (as required).

    No additional fees are charged for the transfer from provisional to permanent registration, except for any adjustment in the fees due to differences in the final tonnage figures.
