The procedure is as follows:
- Fax the following documents to the Registrar:
- Application for temporary closure;
- A certified copy of the charter-party;
- The Mongolian certificate of registry for the ship; and
- Letter of consent from mortgagee (if any);
- Registrar confirms application and the fees payable;
- Pay the fees (including at least 2 year's advance payment of the annual fees);
- Send the original documents specified above to the Registrar;
- Upon receipt of the original documents and fees, the ship's register will be temporarily closed for two years, which may be extended upon application.
- During the temporary closure of the registry of a Mongolian ship, mortgages may continue to be recorded in the register, and the annual tonnage tax will remain payable.
