Ships flying the Mongolian Flag must comply with the requirements of the Mongolian Maritime Legislation. These maritime legislation are available on this website. They govern the operational needs of Mongolia ships and International Conventions' requirements which, all Mongolian ships must comply. They are: - Mongolia Sea Exploitation Law;
- Regulations for registration of ships in the ship registry of Mongolia;
- Mongolia Merchant Shipping (Certification & Manning) Rules; and
- Mongolia Marine Circulars

Mongolia is a party to the following IMO Conventions: - International Convention on Standard of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978, as amended (STCW95 Convention).
- Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, 1972, as amended.
- International Convention on Load Lines, 1966 (including Protocol of 1988 relating to the International Convention on Load Lines, 1966).
- International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea 1974 (including Protocol of 1978 and Protocol of 1988 relating to the International Convention for the safety of Life at Sea, 1974).
- International Convention on Tonnage Measurement of Ships, 1969.
- The International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973, as modified by the Protocol of 1978 relating thereto (Annex 1 to Annex 5).
- International Convention on Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage, 1969.
